Welcome! The new gungho girl website is currently a work in progress.
As some of you may know, I’ve relocated to the Bay Area from New York and par for course (when one changes geography) I’m hustling to create a new network while still holding on to my connections with my previous community. No small task, mind you, even in these days of frequent flyer miles, video conferencing via Skype, Facebook, email, free long distance, and the like.
Two years ago I drove cross-country from New York to Oakland to help my brother and his wife move. I stayed a week helping them unpack and get settled. I also hung out with their friends and explored the East Bay and San Francisco. I knew by day two I belonged here and made the decision to move once my daughter graduated from high school and was off to college.
I spent the last six years freelancing as a cinematographer, editor, and producer in New York. So, why relocate to the bay area? Why not LA? That would seem logical, right? On the surface. Sure. However, for me, this was not the case. Where I live has become just as important as what I do. Not to mention I tend to be the adventurous type usually choosing to either wander off the beaten path or try something that hasn’t been done before (because they say it can’t be done). Thus, I reside in the Bay Area, a major metropolis but not necessarily a major production hub – or so one may think. I’m about to find out.
For the most part, from what I’ve gathered so far, is that the Bay’s major production work consists of postproduction – editing, animation, visual effects, and motion graphics. I’ve been told San Francisco is a big center for experimental film production as well (mmmm…. this brings up a hankering to create some art). Nevertheless, I’m left with the notion that if I want to live in the Bay Area and reap the benefits it has to offer, I once again need to reinvent myself and so here I am – reconstructing the gungho girl website.
What can you look forward too in the next few weeks? Gungho girl is beginning to blog. Yes. I know. I’ve been nagged for years to do this. Well, chummers, I finally feel inspired. At this time, I’m in the midst of re-claiming footage I’ve shot over the past year so I can properly update my reel, perform some general template tweaking, and overhaul this website. Stay tuned. More to come. Ciao for now. (^_^)

20 years is along time to hesitate
doing something kind for one’s-self
hears this moment now hears the next moment
in a way we’re always in the past or future and the present is always passing. eye was just thinking this today.
